Quilcene/Brinnon Dollars For Scholars Dollars For Scholars is a non-profit organization with a 501 C-3 designation. Our purpose is to provide scholarships and act as a central clearing house for donors and scholarship providers. Our Mission: To Provide Scholarship Opportunities for Post Secondary Education to Members of our Community. Please Consider an Endowment, a Pledge, or a Donation. Our Profile Quilcene/Brinnon Dollars For Scholars was formed out of the joint concern and effort of two community service clubs: Lions Club and The Chamber of Commerce. From an exploratory meeting in the Fall of 1999, it was decided to form a local chapter of Dollars For Scholars. We are associated with Scholarship America, a nationally recognized nonprofit student aid service organization. www.scholarshipamerica.org www.wadollarsforscholars.org The key to success is community support from business and civic organizations, municipal employees, grass-roots groups, and individuals joining together to make scholarships happen. There is nothing magic about it. Everyone who cares about our students can contribute in time and/or money. As of May, 2007 our endowment funds have over $35,000. Please consider an endowment in your will that could read: “A Scholarship in Memory of:_______________.” What better gift could you give to the community! Why Use Dollars For Scholars? Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Because most colleges and universities use the FAFSA as their basis for financial aid (which includes grants, scholarships, work study and loans), the schools treat outside scholarships in different ways. Typically, an outside scholarship reduces the financial aid package being offered by the amount of that scholarship. Agreements have been made with Scholarship America that this apply to loan amounts first. Some institutions match the amount of our awards. Check with us for questions. The bottom line is that more scholarship money goes to the student with $ For Scholars! "My vision is to establish in Quilcene, an endowment fund, which will be the source for scholarships for anyone in our community who has the desire and need to further his or her education. If the community of Wakefield Connecticut can build an endowment worth over $6 million dollars, surely we can build one for our community of at least $1 million. Help us help our own." Jim Hodgson, President, Quilcene/Brinnon Dollars for Scholars
