Deadline                                            SCHOLARSHIPS

 

No Deadline           ALERT MAGAZINE SCHOLARSHIP – In order to qualify for alert magazine’s $500 scholarship, applicants must have a 2.5 or above GPA and be planning to attend college after graduation. In addition, applicants must also write an essay (600-1000) words about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse, how it was dealt with, and, in your opinion, what was right or wrong about the way the problem was handled. Criteria for the winning essay are the same as an essay written for a high school English class, ie. Thought content, thesis statement, supporting argument, grammar, punctuation, ect. The winning essay will be published in ALERT magazine. See Mr. Harrington for essay mailing information.

 

OCT. 30, 2007          HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP – In order to qualify for Horatio Alger’s $2500- 20,000 scholarships, applicants must be planning to attend college in the fall after graduation, intend to pursue a Bachelors degree at an accredited institution, have a critical financial need of 50,000 or lower adjusted gross income per family. Applicants must be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, have a 2.0 or better GPA and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Students must submit an online application at www.horatioalger.com  and mail one letter of support from an adult. Students must also download the certifications page from the web site, complete it and obtain the proper signatures prior to mailing. All applicants must submit a photocopy of the front page of their parent’s federal tax return for either 2005 or 2004 in order to verify income stated on the application.

 

Oct. 31, 2007          COCA-COLA SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION – The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will be awarding 250 scholarships. 20 of the scholars designated will receive awards of $20,000. The other 200 scholarship winners will receive awards of $10,000. All applications must be submitted online at www.coca-colascholars.com .

 

Nov. 2, 2007          WASHINGTON AGGREGATES AND CONCRETE ASSOC. ESSAY CONTEST - $2000-$5000 scholarships available for students age 16-18 who submit essays on topics chosen by the Concrete Association. See Mr. Harrington for application.

 

Nov 6, 2007          PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS – This scholarship is open to students in grades 5-12 who participated in a community volunteer activity after Sept. 1, 2006. Applicants may win an unrestricted (you get a check to spend on whatever you want) award of up to $6,000, an engraved medallion, and a trip to Washington D.C. See Mr. Harrington for an application.

 

Nov. 1, 2007          VOICE OF DEMOCRACY COMPETITION – This scholarship is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in public, private or parochial school or home study. Students record a 3-5 minute essay on a standard cassette tape or CD on this year’s theme, “My role in honoring America’s veterans”. See Mr. Harrington for an entry form.

 

Nov. 15, 2007         SULLIVAN LEADERSHIP AWARDS – Seniors interested in attending Seattle University this fall, see Mr. Harrington for Scholarship details.

 

Nov. 30, 2007         BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU 2007 STUDENTS OF INTEGRITY SCHOLARSHIPS – Three $1000 scholarships offered to junior and senior high school students with a minimum 2.5 GPA who plan on attending college after graduation. Students must submit an application and 1000 word essay discussing ethics and integrity in the marketplace. See Mr. Harrington for application.

 

Dec. 1, 2007           MASONS SCHOLARSHIPS – Local and National scholarships offered to 07/08 high school seniors. See Mr. Harrington for application.

 

Dec. 31, 2007         WASHINGTON ASSOCIATION OF WINE GRAPE GROWERS - $500-$2000 scholarships offered to graduating seniors who are planning to enroll in areas of study pertaining to the wine industry. Selection is based on academic merit, leadership abilities and interest in the study of wine making. See Mr. Harrington for application.

 

Feb. 28, 2008         UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON HUSKY PROMISE SCHOLARSHIPS – This scholarship is based on academics and income. Low and middle income students who, after filing a FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant or a Washington State Need Grant may qualify. Dec. 31          HORSE HEAVEN HILLS GROWERS SCHOLARSHIP - $1500 offered to a high school senior planning to enroll in a Washington state college or university and study a wine industry curriculum. See Mr. Harrington for an application.

 

Jan. 14           WASHINGTON NASA SPACE GRANT UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS - $1000-$5,500 renewable scholarships offered to high school seniors planning to major in science, math or engineering at the University of Washington. See Mr. Harrington for an application.

 

Jan. 15           McKELVEY FOUNDATION ENTREPENEURIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $10,000 renewable (4years) scholarships for high school seniors who will attend a 4 year college or university and own and operate a business (must have at least one part time employee). Awards are based solely on demonstration of entrepreneurial spirit. Apply online at www.mckelveyfoundation.org  

 

Jan. 15           NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY AND O’DONNELL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP - $1000-$3000 scholarships available to seniors who have MS or have a parent with MS who plan on attending a 2-4 year college, university or voc/tech school. See Mr. Harrington for an application.

 

Jan. 25           THE GREATER SEATTLE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION AND PRIDE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS - $350,000 in scholarships available for lesbian, gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, questioning, or straight but supportive of alternative lifestyles. Feb. 1            AMERICAN INDIAN ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP – Applicants must be financially needy students with close cultural ties to an American Indian tribe, who will be enrolled full time at a college or university in Washington state by fall 2008. Feb. 1           ESA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS – 35 scholarships with varying money awards available to Washington state seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students may apply for up to three scholarships. See Mr. Harrington for application.

 

Feb. 1           WASHINGTON ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATIONAL GRANTS MANAGERS - $2500 scholarship available for 08 high/alternative school graduate who has received assistance from the following program(s): Title I, Title I Migrant, Learning Assistance Program (LAP), English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or Indian Education. Feb. 15          BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM - $1000 scholarships available to high school seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA, who work an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year. Students must be involved in community service activities,

March 10       EWING C. KELLY SCHOLARSHIPS – Fifty $2500 scholarships offered to 2008 seniors who are or will be accepted at a public or private institution of higher learning. March/April   AYN RAND ESSAY CONTEST – Students in grades 9-12 may win scholarships for writing an essay on one of Ayn Rand’s books. Apply online at www.aynrand.org/contest

 

April 4            WASHINTON STATE UNIVERSITY ASTRONOMY AND PHYSICS SCHOLARSHIPS – Scholarships available to seniors who plan on attending WSU and majoring in Astronomy or Physics. See Mr. Harrington for application or log on to www.physics.wsu.edu

 

April 15           2008 YOUNG NATIVE WRITERS ESSAY CONTEST – Five $1000-$5000 scholarships offered to Native American Indian and Alaska Native high school students who are members of their tribe. Log on to www.indian.hklaw.com

 

April 15           FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME SCHOLARSHIP - $2000 in scholarship money for students ages 13-19 who creatively share an inspirational sports focused story on a 1.5-3 minute video. See Mr. Harrington for details.

 

June 1              BEV AND WES STOCK SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 scholarship offered to a 08 high school senior who is planning on pursuing an athletic related career and will be attending a college or university this fall.

March 1       ELKS VOCATIONAL GRANTS – 30 grants from $800-$1500 for any 2008 graduating senior who plans on attending a vocational or technical school. See Mr. Harrington for application.

 

March 1       WASHINGTON STATE EMPLOYEES CREDIT UNION – Twenty $2000 scholarships for students planning on attending a 4 year college or university. Seven $1000 scholarships for students planning on attending 2 year voc/tech schools. Applicants must be a member or dependent of a member of WSECU. March 1       21st CENTURY EDUCATORS SCHOLARSHIP -  $4000 scholarship available to a high school senior who plans to pursue a career in education. Must have minimum 3.0 GPA. See Mr. Harrington for application.

 

June 1          INTERNATIONAL AIR AND HOSPITALITY ACADEMY – Any student planning on attending this institution and studying culinary arts, airline travel or restaurant management is eligible for $1000-$2000 scholarships. See Mr. Harrington for details.

 

Sept. 15, 2008  AES CONSULTANTS SCHOLARSHIP - $500 scholarship offered to a high school senior. Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of two questions posted on their website www.aesengineers.com/scholarship.php

April 15            QUIMPER COMMUNITY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION – If you are a member or want to join, a $500 scholarship is available to graduating seniors. Requires a portfolio and 1 page essay. See Mr. Harrington for essay details.

 

April 16           DOSEY DUX SCHOLARSHIPS - $500 scholarships available to graduating seniors. Portfolio required. Bring it to Mr. Harrington asap.

 

April 23          PENINSULA COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS – 11 scholarships offered to students who plan on attending Peninsula College this fall. See Mr. Harrington for application.

 

May 1             JUDY MACKIE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500 scholarship will be given to a Quilcene senior. Portfolio required. Bring it to Mr. Harrington asap.

 

May 1            QUILCENE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS – Two $500 scholarships and one $250 cash award will be given to Quilcene seniors. Portfolio and essay required. Essay of at least a page on why community service is important, what community service you have performed and the lessons you learned. Bring portfolios to Mr. Harrington asap.

 

May 1            RED COOK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $5500 in scholarship money will be given to Quilcene seniors. Requires portfolio. Bring your portfolio to Mr. Harrington asap.

 

May 1            UNIVERSITY WOMENS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - $1500 scholarship will be given to a Quilcene girl . Must have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Portfolio required. Bring your portfolio to Mr. Harrington asap.
